What's On My Face Today

Cheeks:

  • Benefit Dandelion Dew Liquid Blush: I got this as a sample size from one of those Benefit airport vending machines and it's taken me a while to get around to trying it, but now that I have I know I'll buy a full-sized bottle. I don't think I've ever used a liquid blush before this one. It comes out about the consistency of a foundation, so it's super easy to blend (I just use my fingers, but a dedicated sponge would probably do a better job). The color is a peachy pink that leaves a sheer and natural-looking flush on the cheeks.

Eyes:

  • MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Painterly (eyelid primer)
  • Anastasia Beverly Hills Norvina Eyeshadow Palette: Back in the day when the first Urban Decay Naked palette came out, I used two shades almost every day - Sin and Sidecar - and ignored the rest. Today I'm wearing Wild Child (duochrome frosty pink) and Celestial (duochrome plum) and I can easily see these two becoming my go-to shades through the fall and winter. I love the whole palette though - the neutral golds and bronzes will make for some pretty color combinations, and I think there are some good matte/shimmer texture combinations to be had as well. I'm so glad I finally picked this up. I've seen a lot of the holiday palettes coming out with similar metallic pinks and purples, so clearly that's the hot combination of the moment.
  • Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in Dark Brown
  • Milk Makeup KUSH High Volume Mascara: I don't love this mascara. Today is probably the last time I'll use it (but I got a mini, so I don't feel so bad about ditching it). The brush is really oversized and I feel like that makes application kind of awkward. That wouldn't matter if the formula were better, but it's just okay, and it's left me a little raccoon-eyed towards the end of the day.

What's On My Face Today

  • MAC Pro Longwear Nourishing Waterproof Foundation in N18: I'm still trying out foundations for my trip next month. I've got just one more to go, then I'll do an overview with my findings. So far this is the clear winner. The shade is a great match for me, the formula has good, buildable coverage that doesn't feel at all heavy, and it does what it says it will - stays put on my face all day long, through a work day and a little time outside in the summer heat.
  • Givenchy Prisme Libre Loose Powder in Mousseline Pastel
  • Snow White "With a Smile and a Song" Cream Blush by Besame Cosmetics: I got this last year at the D23 Expo in Anaheim. D23 is a big Disney fan convention, great for cosplay but not the kind of place I'd expect to find cosmetics. This was part of a limited edition set, although it looks like the blush is still available online at the Disney store. It's bright in the pan, but goes on as a cheerful flush and blends better than any other cream blush I have.
  • MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Painterly (eyelid primer)
  • Tarte Gifted Mascara in Black
  • Benefit Goof Proof Brow Pencil in 3
  • Sephora Lipstories Lipstick in Popsicle Lips: This is my favorite from the #Lipstories collection. It's just the right cool shade of red for my pale complexion, and it's got some lasting power. It's a satin finish, so it's not drying. I get about six hours of wear out of it, more if I don't put lip balm underneath (although I do still have to touch up when I eat/drink).
  • Today's fragrance: Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Mandarine Basilic: My favorite refreshing citrus for summer!

  • Revlon ColorStay Makeup for Normal/Dry Skin in 150 Buff: I don't normally use long-wear foundations, but I've got some travel coming up and I think there will be some long days ahead. It's been years since I've really used a drugstore brand, at least for foundation - I've had some bad experiences with oxidizing and orange skin is not a good look on me. But I know that drugstore foundations have improved a lot over the last few years, so I'm auditioning a few of them before my trip. This one, unfortunately, is not going to make the cut. It's a good color match for me, but I think it sets too quickly and that makes it really hard to blend. It also doesn't have great coverage - I had to use a lot more foundation than I normally would just to even out a little redness in my skin tone, and now I feel like I'm wearing a mask.
  • Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer (concealer) in SX01: When my skin is clear, I don't normally use a concealer at all, but the foundation left me with no choice to even out some of the redness on my chin.
  • Givenchy Prisme Libre Loose Powder in Mousseline Pastel
  • Milani Color Harmony Blush Palette in 01 Pink Play: My eyeshadow today is really taking center stage, so I've got just a whisper of cheek color from this blush palette. I'm really happy with it, though. The pigmentation is good, the color is good, it's easy to blend. I used to think of Milani as a lesser brand, even among drugstore brands, but I've gotten a few blushers and eye products from them in the past year that I just love, so I think that's changed.
  • MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Painterly (eyelid primer)
  • Almay Shadow Squad Holographics in 290 Pegasus: This stuff is amazing! I came across a new drugstore display yesterday when I was picking up these other products and immediately grabbed three of the four quads they had out. Pegasus is a collection of greens, like varying shades of electric seafoam. I'm using one of the darker colors on my lid, with the lightest one as a
  • Benefit They're Real! Lengthening & Volumizing Mascara in Black
  • Sisley Phyto-Sourcils Fix Brow Gel in 2
  • Dior Addict Lip Glow in 001 Pink
  • Today's fragrance: Glossier You EDP: I love how much this smells like a cross between clean skin and fresh notebook paper. I wear this when I don't want to feel too "perfumey".
